CARE was founded after the Second World War, when European emigrants from the US attempted to avoid another war by sending relief packages to Europe and Japan. They did this to prevent unnecessary hunger and suffer in war-torn countries.
CARE decided to focus on developing countries, when the relief assistance in Europe became unnecessary. Since then, CARE has worked to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people by improving their quality of life.
The goal is to prevent disasters before they take place. Prevention of humanitarian disasters is the greatest and less expensive relief assistance. But not all disasters can be predicted. This is why CARE International also provides regular relief assistance.
CARE is a nonpolitician and nonreligious organisation. The organisation indcludes 13 independent organisations in 13 different countries. Every organisation has its own speciality within development and relief assistance, but work in close cooperation.
